This company was founded by Ellis R Vine in 1932 as a Sunland Consignee. The company was and still is based in Ceres, California. Ceres being exactly in the middle of the famous San Joaquin Valley, Ellis's main customer base was the agricultural community. Customers knew him by his friendliness, integrity, and fairness—traits which outlived the man that put them to work. The Great Depression was a difficult time to begin a business. His wife Lena Vine worked two and sometimes three jobs to allow his company to get a start.
Sons Dick and Donald joined his company in the 1940's. Their wives Mildred and Janice, worked at their sides as they built the company in to a full-line distributorship. In 1967, they became the second Enco Distributors in all of California.
Raising six daughters, Dick and Donald Vine decided to offer three son-in-laws the opportunity to enter the business. Jeffrey Lebeouf, Rich Erickson, and Mike Keys came on board in 1980. All three worked various entry level positions within the company. After 10 years, Dick and Don began to make ownership changes, giving the third generation an opportunity for ownership. In the 1990's, Vine became one of Exxon's 50 national-branded wholesalers for lubricant products.
